L'Oreal 2030 target: 100% recycled or bio based plastics, 150 million euro to help solve social and environmental problems
Earlier, L'Oreal Group announced in Paris, France, the group's new sustainable development project "L'Oreal, for tomorrow" and a series of ambitious goals for 2030. L'Oreal China has recently presented the details of this global project to the Chinese market in Shanghai, and announced a series of activities organized by the Chinese market to support "L'Oréal for tomorrow".
Fibre, President and CEO of L'Oréal China, shared the "L'Oréal, Tomorrow" 2030 sustainable development project and the "Better Planet, See You Tomorrow" China annual green consumption advocacy.
100% of 2030 product packaging comes from recycled or bio-based materials
The "L'Oréal for tomorrow" 2030 sustainable development project will contain three core strategies, as well as corresponding latest initiatives and key goals:
(1) Promote the transformation of its own business model and respect the boundaries of the earth
By 2030, reduce greenhouse gas emissions per unit of product by 50% compared to 2016;
By 2025, all operating facilities will improve energy efficiency and use 100% renewable energy to achieve carbon neutrality;
By 2030, through innovation, the greenhouse gas generated by consumers using L'Oreal products will be reduced by an average of 25% per unit of finished products compared with 2016;
By 2030, 100% of the water used in industrial processes will be recycled;
By 2030, 95% of the ingredients in the formula will be bio-based ingredients, derived from sufficient minerals or recycling processes;
By 2030, 100% of the plastic in product packaging will come from recycled or bio-based materials (by 2025, 50% will be reached);
Among them, L'Oréal brand Garnier will take the lead and eliminate the use of nascent plastic packaging by 2025.
(2) Empowering the business ecosystem and transforming towards a more sustainable world
By 2030, 100% of L'Oréal's strategic suppliers will provide employees with at least basic living wages to meet the basic needs of employees and their families;
By 2030, L'Oreal will help 100,000 poor people achieve new employment;
L'Oreal has created a product environmental and social impact labeling system to empower 1.5 billion consumers to make sustainable consumption choices.
(3) Appropriation of 150 million euros to deal with urgent social and environmental problems
In order to meet key environmental challenges, 100 million euros will be used for profit-making investments, of which 50 million euros will be used to fund natural regeneration-related projects, and 50 million euros will be used to fund circular economy-related projects.
To assist vulnerable women, 50 million euros will be used to create charity and endowment funds.
Join hands with Ali to continue promoting green parcels
In 2018, L'Oreal China and Alibaba Group began to promote the use of tape-free, easily tearable, 100% degradable green packages in e-commerce logistics. So far, more than 10 brands have begun to apply. Ten thousand, and a total of 3.4 million were sent during 618 in 2020.
In 2019, China will formally become a market where L'Oreal Group's complete operating facilities including factories, distribution centers, R&D and innovation centers, offices, etc. have all achieved carbon neutrality goals.

On this basis, L'Oreal China announced that it will promote green parcels to all the Group's brands in China in 2020, and will join hands with Alibaba Group and China Environmental Protection Foundation to upgrade the project again and launch a "green parcel graffiti collection order" for consumers.
